Not guilty plea in Yakima real estate agent ambush | Local News ...

YAKIMA, Wash. ?

A couple accused of ambushing a real estate agent at a vacant house pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges Tuesday at their arraignment in Yakima County Superior Court.

Bail was set at $750,000 each for 38-year-old Luis Gomez-Monges and 23-year-old Adriana Mendez.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://bit.ly/11vG31p) the motive in the May 25 attack on 78-year-old Vern Holbrook is unclear. He was beaten and had his throat cut. He was treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and a spokeswoman said Wednesday he was discharged to a nursing care facility.

Court records say the couple posed as prospective buyers and specifically asked for Holbrook when they called his agency. Investigators tracked them to a Yakima motel two days after the killing.
