MIAMI (AP) ? A big early Miami lead was wasted. Once the Heat took control again, they simply ran away from the Boston Celtics.

And the NBA finals are now three wins away for LeBron James and the Heat.

James scored 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Dwyane Wade scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and the Heat beat the Celtics 93-79 on Monday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Shane Battier, playing in the conference finals for the first time, scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for the Heat, who wasted an early 11-point first-half lead before running away to break a halftime tie. Miami outrebounded the Celtics 48-33, and blocked 11 Boston shots.

It was those last two stats that had James lauding the night as a team effort.

"We get a lot of the press, we get a lot of the headlines," James said. "But our teammates, they do everything to help us win ball games."

Kevin Garnett scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Boston, which got 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists from Rajon Rondo and 12 points from Paul Pierce. Ray Allen shot just 1 for 7 from the floor for Boston, which was outscored by 10 in the first quarter and 11 in the third.

"On the road, you can't have two quarters of lulls," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said.

Game 2 is Wednesday night in Miami.

It's the third straight year the Heat and Celtics have met in the playoffs, the third straight year James has seen his postseason path go through Boston as well ? the first of those matchups coming in 2010, his final run with Cleveland.

Each of those came in the first or second rounds, not this close to the NBA finals.

And while both sides would say there's a long way to go in this series, Game 1 winners have a decided edge in any best-of-seven, the conference final being no exception. In the most recent 10 postseasons, teams with 1-0 leads in conference finals have advanced 15 out of 20 times. One of the five instances of a team rallying from a one-game deficit was last year, when Miami ousted Chicago in five games.

Last season's Miami-Boston series ended with James scoring the final 10 points of Game 5, and the start of this year's matchup had him putting on another offensive display.

He had 13 points in the first quarter ? two more than the entire Celtics roster ? and Miami ran out to a 21-11 lead after the opening period. Garnett made three of his four shots in the quarter, while everyone else in Boston green was 2 for 16 from the floor.

"They came to play," Rivers said. "I mean Miami."

The 11 points matched the lowest output by any team in the opening quarter this postseason. The other team to manage that few was San Antonio, which then dropped 32 on the Los Angeles Clippers in the second quarter of their game on May 19.

The Celtics' response was even better.

Boston scored 35 in the second quarter, erasing what was an 11-point deficit early in the period by scoring 27 points in the final 8:46 of the half to pull into a 46-all tie. Rondo, Garnett and Pierce combined to score 23 points in the quarter, looking absolutely vintage, near-perfect offensive execution getting to Miami time and time again. And the Celtics' comeback happened even while they got hit with three technical fouls in the second quarter, plus Allen missing four first-half free throws ? matching his career-worst for an entire game.

In the end, it went down as merely a one-quarter lapse for Miami.

Another technical foul, this one on Rondo, came in the third quarter, likely born from frustration as the Heat started to roll again.

With the game tied at 50, Rondo missed three shots in a 31-second span early in the third, the last of those getting blocked by Battier ? who hit a 3-pointer 11 seconds later. It started a 9-2 Miami burst, including a touchdown pass from Wade to James ? Wade grabbed the rebound of a miss by Pierce, spun and delivered a 90-foot pass to the reigning MVP ? for an easy score.

Miami led by as many as 13 late in the third, before taking a 72-61 lead into the fourth. James scored 10 more in the third, Boston went cold again shooting just 27 percent in the period, and Wade's left-handed bullet pass into the lane set up Joel Anthony for a dunk that pushed the Heat lead to 15 with 10:13 remaining.

"We'll go back and see what we can do better," Rivers said. "And we'll fix it."

James passed Sam Jones (2,909) for 22nd on the NBA's playoff scoring list with a layup late in the first quarter, and Garnett passed Dirk Nowitzki (1,314) for 22nd on the league's postseason rebound list. ... Plenty of teams said ?no? to Hard Knocks, for various reasons.? The Dolphins agreed to do it.

On Tuesday, coach Joe Philbin discussed the situation, calling it a ?football decision.?

Seriously.

?We?re excited that NFL Films and HBO has chosen the Miami Dolphins to appear on Hard Knocks,? Philbin said, via the video box on the right rail of the site.? ?I want you to know a couple things about the decision.? Number one, it was a football decision.? It was made by the football operations staff.? Our owner, [Stephen Ross], supported our decision but in no way, shape, or form forced us to make this decision.?

Many will believe otherwise, especially since G.M. Jeff Ireland grew up in the Bill Parcells school of ultra-secrecy.

But as the Dolphins struggle to generate interest in the team via conventional means (you know, by winning more games than they lose), the team has to do something to get people sufficiently engaged to buy tickets to the games.? Thus, the Dolphins are now more available to the media ? and they?ll be even more available once the NFL Films cameras and microphones show up.

To the extent that the appearance arises from a football decision, Philbin didn?t really articulate a football reason.? He said the that show will ?showcase our players? and provide a ?great opportunity for us to communicate with our fans.?? While those concerns reflect prudent business reasons, there?s no obvious basis for the move, from a football standpoint.

In contrast, Vince Lombardi liked having NFL Films camera crews around because it made his players work harder.? If that?s the basis for the ?football decision,? why not say so?

And so the Dolphins will deny that the move was driven by dollars and cents, and the rest of us won?t believe them.? But at least we finally know who the team will be, even if the end result likely will be far less compelling than if the Jets, Saints, Broncos, Colts, or Redskins had done it.

While it?s true that it?s never good to run when you don?t feel well or when you have an injury, you are still going to have to push your body at times. If you are one of those people who always has an excuse not to run, such as not having time, then you?re not going to stick with your running routine for long, that?s for sure.

If you?ve never run anywhere except to the bathroom, then it?s highly recommended by a lot of people to begin small and with power walking. If you are not used to exercise, or haven?t done it for a long time, walking can be a great way to gradually get your body accustomed to moving around. It does not matter at all how fast or slow you begin, the important thing is to get started. When you feel comfortable, you can move from a power walk to a jog, until you reach a pace that seems right for you. You don?t want to overdo it and cause an injury because that will only set you back as you heal. Power walking can be a healthy and beneficial activity in itself, and people who cannot run because of an injury or health problem can power walk instead. We still recommend walking first because it?s a safe and effective way to get used to running.

You need to stay healthy and avoid injuries to get the most out of jogging. Jogging is great for your fitness but it can also cause some injuries.

You need to listen to your body and watch for warning signs to reduce your risk of injuries. Pushing yourself too hard is not a good idea. You should gradually increase you speed and distance, starting slowly. If you feel any sharp pains, stop running, and if the pain doesn?t go away, see your doctor. Pay attention to how you feel while running because if you push too hard, you will end up doing more harm than good. In conclusion, use the techniques for jogging that we just talked about to get your health back to where you want it to be, and also so that you keep your motivation high. Remember that if you hope to get in shape using running, you have to make the activity a part of what you do on a daily basis. That?s why it?s so important to be careful and sensible when you run or jog, so you?ll be able to keep going with a minimum of problems to slow you down.

Updated at 1 a.m. ET: BOISE, Idaho -- Idaho National Guard rescuers plucked a California fireman, his wife and their adult daughter from a snow-covered mountain-side Sunday afternoon, more than 15 hours after the trio survived a nighttime plane crash onto a steep, forested slope in a remote part of the state.

Authorities said the group was flying in a Cessna 172 from California to Mountain Home, Idaho, when the plane went down at about 9 p.m. MDT Saturday (11 p.m. ET). One of the three used a cellphone just after midnight to report that they had survived the crash but had suffered head and back injuries.

A medical helicopter was the first to spot the wreckage Sunday morning, but white-out conditions didn't allow for an immediate rescue, said Col. Tim Marsano of the Idaho National Guard.

Snow drifts
Officials said ground rescuers traveling through 6-foot snow drifts and on 60 degree slopes reached the crash site first. They wrapped the family members in blankets and built a fire until a military helicopter could lift them out with a hoist.

"It was inhospitable for a landing," Marsano said. "The use of the helicopter was indispensable for this type of rescue operation."

Ground rescuers traveled through 6-foot snow drifts to reach the crash site.

The three were flown one at a time to a landing area about a half-mile from War Eagle Mountain in southwest Idaho's Owyhee County.

The first person came out about noon and the last at about 2 p.m., and each was transferred to a medical helicopter and flown to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise where they were listed in stable condition.

It's unclear what caused the Cessna to go down. Photos taken by rescuers showed significant damage, including a broken front windshield.

Authorities identified the trio?as Brian Brown of Wilton, Calif., his wife Jayann Brown and their 26-year-old daughter Heather, the Idaho Statesman reported.

'Surprisingly good condition'
Brian Brown is a captain at the Cosumnes Community Services District Fire Department in Elk Grove, Calif. He is also Deputy Chief of Operation and Training with the nearby volunteer Wilton Fire Protection District.

Owyhee County Sheriff Daryl Crandall told KTVB that the three relatives were "surprisingly good condition."

Wilton Fire Chief Tom Dark said the couple was flying with their youngest daughter to Mountain Home to visit their oldest daughter. He was relieved they were in stable condition.

"That was our first concern, how he and the family were doing," said Dark. "Knowing what a good pilot he is, something had to have happened."

Dark said it was probably an unusual experience for Brown, a firefighter for more than two decades, to be on the other end of a rescue.

"When the shoe is on the other foot it's kind of strange," he said.

Additional green features include natural daylighting in evey room; natural, breathable earth block walls (which were made by the program?s students), purified rainwater for both potable and non-potable water functions; and an on-site water purification and recycling system consisting of plants, algae, and bacteria.

Florida Football 2012 100 For 100, No. 98: Gators Are Older Than Most

Last year, we tried 50 For 50, and got halfway done before things cropped up. This year, Alligator Army is coming back with 100 For 100, with 100 articles in the 100 days leading up to the first Florida Gators football game of the 2012 season, and will run down storylines, profile players, examine history, and make some predictions, possibly all haphazardly. The only thing we can promise is that each day's entry will bring us all one step closer to "Herrrrrrrrre ... come the Gators!"

We remember Florida's 2011 team as a young one that couldn't quite get over the hump in a lot of ways: The young defense wasn't as ferocious as it promises to be this fall, and the young secondary got torched; the young receiving corps was invisible on all but a few afternoons, and the young offensive line was rarely better than miserable.

Here's good news for 2012: Those Gators aren't so young anymore.

Phil Steele's got the rankings of teams by percentage of lettermen returning, and Florida tops the FBS list with 55 of 65 lettermen from 2011 coming back for 2012. That's 84.6 percent, better than all FBS/FCS teams but the University of Texas at San Antonio, a program in its second year.

That total isn't automatically good, of course. Florida doesn't return its starting quarterback, top two running backs, or two of its top three receivers, and it's only because the people in that accounting are John Brantley, Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, and Deonte Thompson that we don't think those are such huge losses. (You can play this game with fellow top-five-in-returning-lettermen teams Stanford and Oregon: Andrew Luck isn't back for the Cardinal, nor is most of a great offensive line, and the Ducks lost Darron Thomas and LaMichael James.)

That said, another year under Will Muschamp can't possibly make the Gators who were often in games in 2011 worse in 2012, can it?

In Africa?s Odious Debts: How Foreign Loans and Capital Flight Bled a Continent(Zed Books, 2011), L?once Ndikumana and James K. Boyce reveal these intimate links between foreign loans and capital flight, exploring the human cost of fund transfers as well as mechanisms to promote more responsible international financial systems.

On March 19, the Africa Growth Initiative at Brookings hosted a discussion of the book, featuring co-author L?once Ndikumana. He?was joined by?Hippolyte Fofack, a senior economist at The World Bank,?and Raymond Baker, director of Global Financial Integrity, who provided a broader assessment of the consequences of capital flight as they apply to Africa?s economic growth. Visiting Fellow Osita Ogbu, former senior economic adviser to the president of Nigeria, moderated the discussion. Senior Fellow Mwangi S. In April 2012, authorities in the prosperous and generally peaceful Caribbean nation of Belize intercepted a shipment of precursor chemicals sent from China and apparently bound for representatives of the Mexican cartel ?Los Zetas.?? Union Rags breezes at Fair Hill; Ravelo's Boy works for possible Belmont start

One of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I'll Have Another's biggest challengers in the June 9 Belmont Stakes, Union Rags, continued his preparations for the "Test of the Champion" when turning in a five-furlong breeze at Fair Hill Training Center on Thursday in 1:01. The move pleased trainer Michael Matz. "I was looking for him to go in 1:01," Matz said. "He went nicely. We're happy with him, and he'll have one more work next week." Exercise rider Peter Brette was at the helm on Thursday, with jockey John Velazquez possible to be aboard Union Rags for his final breeze before the Belmont Stakes, Matz said. The Belmont will be Union Rags' first race with Velazquez in the saddle as he'll replace Julien Leparoux, who rode Union Rags to a victory in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth, a third in the Grade 1 Florida Derby and a seventh in the Kentucky Derby. Union Rags has experience over Big Sandy as the son of Dixie Union captured the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes last season by 5 1/4 lengths.

Korina Stable's Ravelo's Boy sizzled a half-mile in :46 3/5 over a wet-fast track at Calder Thursday morning as the son of Lawyer Ron points for a possible start in the Belmont.

"The Belmont is an option," trainer Manny Azpurua admitted on Thursday. "But we're not ready to say for sure that's where we are running. So far he's doing everything right, and he just flew over the track this morning."

The work, which was two seconds faster than any Thursday Calder move at the distance, was the second published workout in five days for Ravelo's Boy. The colt's Belmont audition will continue in three days when he is scheduled to visit the Calder main track yet again.

"We won't make any official decision until after Sunday," Azpurua said. "(Jockey Alex) Solis is coming down to get on him. They'll go to the track about 7:30 a.m. (EDT) and after that we'll have a better idea where we are going. If it is the Belmont, we'll probably just gallop him up to the race."

Ravelo's Boy hasn't started since a fifth-place finish in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby on March 10.

"He had some problems after the Tampa race," Azpurua explained. "Nothing too bad, but he needed some time off. And that time off has been good for him."

Ravelo's Boy will be seeking his first stakes win if he goes in the Belmont. The chestnut colt made his black-type debut last July in a listed stakes at Calder, where he ran sixth, and didn't face stakes company again until starting in the Gulfstream Park Derby on New Year's Day, where he finished fifth. The sophomore was fourth by only 1 1/4 lengths in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes prior to the Tampa Bay Derby.

Five Sixteen, considered likely for the Belmont, also took to the track to ready for the third jewel of the Triple Crown. The Invasor colt, who would be making his stakes bow in the Belmont, covered five furlongs over Big Sandy's good main track in 1:00 4/5 Thursday.

With Mark Valeski highly doubtful for the Belmont, jockey Rosie Napravnik has picked up the mount on Five Sixteen, who was last seen running fourth in an allowance at Aqueduct on April 18.

Unstable ladder allegedly injures seaman - Seattle Maritime Attorneys

A seaman has sued his employer, in federal court, for injuries he allegedly sustained while working in unsafe conditions. Similar accidents, involving maintenance and cure, occur in major ports, throughout the nation such as Seattle, with some regularity. While unfortunate, maritime employers understand the inherent dangers and should do everything possible to safeguard their employees.

The seaman fell off an unstable ladder while working as a deckhand on a tugboat. While tying off two empty barges and a crane barge, he placed the stepladder against one of the barges. He fell off the ladder and crashed to the tugboat deck.

His lower back struck the deck and also a steel bit on the deck of the crane barge. The lawsuit he filed against the tugboat company alleges negligence for "failing to provide adequate equipment" on the craft. The suit also accuses the employer of failing to assign adequate personnel to complete the barge tie-off task, while ordering crew members to perform under unsafe conditions.

The defendants also face charges of failing to properly supervise personnel and a failure to train and supervise the crew, including the injured seaman. To complete the allegations, the seaman claims he was forced to work under unsafe conditions, leading to a personal injury.

The lawsuit seeks damages for physical pain and suffering, psychological pain and anguish, medical costs, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, disfigurement and disability, maintenance, cure, and interest, along with court and legal fees. Filed in U.S. District Court, it is currently unclear when the judge will hear motions and/or arguments from legal counsel.
