There are plenty of alternatives to traditional text messaging, including offerings from big names like Apple, Google, and Facebook. Even though SMS is still reigns supreme for sending misinterpreted messages and emoticons, similar texting services are making big inroads. And compared to other forms of communication, texting offers a quick, easy way to get your message across without demanding someone's immediate attention but still letting them know you'd like a response soon.
