One, rather simple, method with regard to assisting in this goal is often overlooked through the multitudes but is just about the most efficient measures which might be taken to be able to protect besides the property or home from intruders but additionally to safeguard those on the property through unnecessary injury thanks to an inability to view what?s going on in the exterior immediately after hours.

Certainly, poor lighting can make a home or enterprise a considerably more attractive target approach house up coming door which has adequate outside lighting. Home burglars may quite often not always be the sharpest tools in the shed but individuals who are successful in this line of work will be only successful simply because they do fully grasp the regulations of occasion. A darker shady area that may be concealed from your view of others presents an even more attractive target to would be intruders over a well-lit in addition to revealing admittance point right home.

When designing the security plan in your home in addition to business you need to try in addition to think being a criminal. If you were planning to break into your own home or enterprise where could you try to realize entry? Those is also the areas that has to be well ignited and provide little in how of concealment opportunities for people who would hope to make the uninvited access. Do definitely not build storage sheds near windows in addition to doors. Instead, keep them from these locations. Storage products provide concealment in addition to shadow in areas when this can?t be wanted.

Not many security in actual fact from breach. You need to be worried about the wellness and welfare of those who survive and work in your residence or enterprise. Having areas surrounding your own home and business won?t reveal intruders but additionally obstacles, divots, and for example. that can pose pitfalls of injury additionally potential burglars. You need to remember not many intruders own only possessions planned when they make their grand access. Making your own home or enterprise uninviting as being a ?pit stop? with regard to these arrest elements also can make it safer in your family, close friends, coworkers, in addition to employees.

You do not need to light up your home or business being a military installation to be able to achieve the very security you seek. Motion sensor gizmos that only light up the area whereby motion is actually detected can certainly prove simple enough protection on many occasions without welcoming the neighbours to complain regarding the never-ending sunny days you be capable of create.

Rope gizmos provide very low level in addition to decorative gizmos but in addition they invite passersby to consider your property or home. This in itself can make your property or home unattractive in order to intruders if you find any sort of regular traffic in the neighborhood as well as an active amount of neighbors that will walk pets, star look, or take part in any other nocturnal work out plans.

If string lights are not appealing, many properties make judicious using solar centric decorative gizmos, as portion of their landscaping additionally a for sure deterrent to would be intruders. Combining several of the forms of exterior light discussed on top of could web even larger results. Prevention is actually the best strategy in terms of things such as home as well as business security and also protection of those who survive and work in your residence or enterprise from possibilities harm thanks to inadequate outside lighting.

These are all things to be considered when developing a security plan in your home as well as business. Lighting is significant for plenty of reasons. Despite the fact that many individuals have top grade security gear and can?t find their way all over their lawns immediately after lights will be out so few individuals bother to adopt the requirement adequate outside lighting really. Hopefully individuals who read this will have a brand new attitude in terms of lighting way up the night skies in addition to keeping your own home and enterprise safe.

Matthew Allen ? Blog Archive ? Connectedness: technology ...

?

I was recently asked to provide a blog post for IBM as part of its ?Shaping Our Future? campaign. The entry is, of course, buried within the site in a way that makes it hard to find and link to. Here is what I contributed:

?

Because of the rise of digital network technologies, the future of human society is all about connectedness. Our lives are changing dramatically, indeed have already changed, because of it. Connectivity is no longer just having Internet access: being ?networked? is now deeply part of our culture and our emotional lives. As we get comfortable with our always-connected state, it becomes part of us in a way that a mere tool can never be.

We now can access (and often must use) software and hardware to create, share and receive information. These technologies permit conversations, collaborations and communities to persist and grow, free from many constraints of time and space. No longer do we need to be in the same place and time to work and play together. And, through network access wherever we are, and powerful mobile computing and communications devices, networked information and communication is becoming ubiquitous.

It is more than just ?the Internet?, though this meta-network is a very significant part of connectedness. The technologies that make the difference also include digital cameras, audio recorders and players, the ever-present ?clouds? of computing power to serve applications and store data, and geo-location services provided by GPS. Databases that store and relate vast quantities of trivial data (often provided unconsciously) also matter: the code is a technology which now defines our way of life.

We sometimes think ?connectedness? is about our family, our friends and our workmates. And, truly, the Internet has changed these social relations and where we experience them. We work from home more, we play at work more. We connect with others through countless forms of digital exchange, reaching out to the person across the street, or across the world. Connectedness makes us imagine the world as our backyard: but we are also ?everywhere? all at once.

It?s not just about connections to others. We also have a different sort of connection to our own everyday life. We snap pictures, update our status, immediately find a key bit of information to put to use, there and then. Layers of data provided by our computers augment the reality we live. In many ways, we are more connected to ourselves than ever before, even as our connections to others become weaker, but more numerous. We see ourselves, online, as others see us; we see ourselves reflected in the mirror of the screen.

Technologies do not make things different: how humans use and adapt the devices and their applications remains vital. Computing technologies are not replacing humans, nor taking over from them, nor stealing our essential humanity. Skynet, the self-aware computer of the Terminator movie series that embarks on a crusade to exterminate humanity, is just the dream of an evil genius.

J.C.R.Licklider, an American scientist in the 1960s had a different dream. He was one of the pioneers in the creation of the Internet, once writing of the ? ?man-machine? symbiosis ? as his vision for the way humans and computers would work together. The Internet, especially in the form of the mobile connected devices which many use intimately every day, is enabling this symbiosis to occur. This dream, unlike the endless (and ultimately fruitless) quest for artificial intelligence, recognises the weaknesses and failings in both computers and humans rather than triumphantly desiring computers to be like humans or vice versa. Only through symbiosis does each compensate for the other.

But humans must also realise that they are not solely in charge of their destinies. Connectedness is becoming a pervasive fact of life. As it does so, humans form a permanent connection with the technologies of networking: they become our partners, not servants. Our future is now shaped by the interaction between our lives and the computers and networks that make them work. In effect, each connected human becomes a part of the network: we give up ideals of freedoms and are no longer autonomous individuals.

Our capacity to express our individual identity ? through Facebook walls, Twitter updates, Flickr photo galleries, Youtube home videos ? has never been stronger. But the basis of that individuality has never been weaker. We are as much data and code as the websites we visit, and the applications we use.

Ultimately, connectedness is the new future of humans and technology. Connectedness not only binds humans together more strongly, but binds us to our technology. It enriches us, but it also fragments our lives into diffuse packets and streams of data which take on lives of their own. Who we are, and how we make sense of things has changed forever.

Looking For Antique Tables | 1 Antiques

Posted by admin on August 28th, 2011

Do you have a formal dining room? a beautiful antique table would show off your home with elegance. it could be a conservation piece at your family dinners or when you have special friends over for dinner. Maybe you just want a large, heavy old time table and not one of the everyday type that you would have to buy today. it can be very hard to find the right table for your home but an antique table might just suit your taste and go perfectly with every thing you have in your home.

You could run into difficulties in finding the right antique table if you have no idea where to look. Finding one in your local area is best because it will give you a chance to look it over before you consider on buying it. the ideal antique table is one that looks brand new but is an antique at least one hundred years old. we would find this almost impossible but we still want one that is sturdy, all joints intact, and in overall good condition. Abuse and wear will lower the value of antiques so check it over very carefully looking to see that there are no cracked or warped wood in the table. look on the underside of the table to see if there could be any information that would suggest that it is a reproduction. by looking underneath you could probably tell if it has been repaired.

Even though antique shops are usually higher priced than other outlets they are still a very good place to look for something special and also in better condition. try charity stores such as Goodwill and thrift stores, you might just find some thing that someone has turned in not knowing that it is a antique. You can try garage and estate sales but like the charity and thrift stores you will have to rely on your own judgment to determine if they are real antiques or not. if you find antique tables or any antiques at these places it is most likely to be a very good bargain. the internet can connect you with someone that is selling antique tables. Craigslist and eBay are two good places to start. You would have to look for places fairly close to your home because traveling hundreds or thousands of miles might not be practical.

If you are handy and like to repair things, you could look for antique tables that needs refinishing or repairing, then you can come up with some real bargains. I have seen tables that had a few coats of paint on them and when the paint was removed and the table sanded it uncovered the most beautiful wood that you have ever seen and that is a special treasure.

Did global warming cause Irene? (Politico)

Hurricane Irene hadn?t even made landfall in the United States before some people figured out what to blame it on.

?Irene?s got a middle name, and it?s Global Warming,? environmental activist Bill McKibben wrote Thursday night in The Daily Beast. He argued that this year?s hot Atlantic Ocean temperatures and active spree of hurricanes ? coupled with droughts, floods and melting sea ice elsewhere on the globe ? are ?what climate change looks like in its early stages.?

Besides, ?what?s a ?tropical? storm doing heading for the snow belt?? asked McKibben. He also said the storm represented bad timing for the Obama administration?s favorable environmental impact statement on TransCanada?s proposed Keystone XL pipeline, which environmentalists label a danger to the Earth?s climate.

But not so fast, hurricane scientists say: Not only is it impossible to tie any single hurricane to global warming, but researchers are also still fiercely debating whether the changing climate is making ? or will make ? tropical cyclones either stronger or more frequent.

It?s also not even clear that hurricane seasons are getting worse over time, some researchers say. After all, New York City and Long Island have been hit by nine previous hurricanes from 1858 to 1991, according to NOAA records, including the disastrous 1938 storm known as the Long Island Express. And the deadliest hurricane in U.S. history struck 111 years ago ? the 1900 storm that killed an estimated 8,000 people in Galveston, Texas.

?I think the state of the science is such that you cannot link any singular event to global warming,? said Eric Blake, a hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center near Miami.

Besides, Blake added, ?there?s nothing new about a hurricane hitting the Northeast? ? even if it's rarer than a storm that whacks Florida or the Gulf Coast.

On the other hand, some climate researchers say they do see signs of rising global temperatures behind the Atlantic basin?s increase in especially destructive hurricanes since the mid-1990s.

?I think the evidence is fairly compelling that we?re seeing a climate change signal in the Atlantic,? said Kerry Emanuel, a professor of atmospheric science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Citing other recent trends of extreme weather, including hailstorms and catastrophic tornadoes, ?one begins to wonder, if you add all those up, maybe you are seeing a global warming effect.?

Still, Emanuel said, ?I would be reluctant myself to say anything about global warming and Irene.? For one thing, he said, Irene hasn?t been an especially unusual hurricane.

Of course, it?s not at all unusual for nonscientists to make sweeping conclusions based on the weather. Conservative pundits and politicians routinely cite winter blizzards as evidence that Al Gore is wrong, for example, while Rush Limbaugh argued? in 2007 that the National Hurricane Center must have misclassified one tropical storm that struck Canada ? on the grounds, the pundit said, that ?Nova Scotia is not the tropics.? (In fact, Nova Scotia has been hit by some full-blown hurricanes, such as Juan in 2003.)

Meanwhile, disasters such as 2005?s Hurricane Katrina have become routine parts of environmentalists? call to take action on global warming. Even if an individual storm can?t be blamed conclusively on global trends, they argue, these are the kinds of destructive storms we can expect to see more of as the temperatures rise.

?Yes, it is true that no single hurricane can be blamed on global warming,? Gore said in a speech to Sierra Club activists within weeks after Katrina. But, he said, ?it is also true that the science is extremely clear now, that warmer oceans make the average hurricane stronger.?

On the other hand, scientists can also point to more immediate causes that can make hurricanes stronger or more destructive. They include the El Ni?o/La Ni?a cycle, which can make Atlantic hurricanes either more or less frequent, as well as decades-long population movements that have placed vastly more people and property near the storm-vulnerable U.S. coastline.

Also, the conventional wisdom on hurricane seasons is that they go through natural, decades-long quiet and active cycles, with the Atlantic in the middle of an active cycle that started in 1995. (Emanuel disagrees with that view.) So while the past decade and a half have seen plenty of active hurricane seasons and deadly storms, so did the 1930s, ?40s and ?50s.

To be sure, recent hurricane seasons have hit some huge milestones.

The 2005 Atlantic season was the busiest since at least 1851, producing a record 28 storms ? including four hurricanes in the powerful Category 5, most notably Katrina. One of that season?s other Category 5 storms, Wilma, became the Atlantic basin?s most intense hurricane ever recorded before battering the Mexican coast and Florida.

The 2004 season included the first South Atlantic hurricane on record, which hit Brazil, while 2007?s Felix and Dean became the first two Atlantic storms to make landfall at Category 5 strength in a single season. And 2010 tied for the third-busiest season ever.

Then again, past decades have also had a bunch of ?mosts? and ?firsts.? Those include 1900?s Galveston storm along with the second-deadliest storm in U.S. history, the 1928 hurricane that killed an estimated 2,500 people in South Florida. And the 1933 hurricane season was the second-busiest on record in the Atlantic.

Ok I have turned the main breaker off. With volt meter I plug the black into the dirt and touch the red to ground rod wire I get a reading of 5 volts. I can also touch the casing of a/c unit with red lead and get the same. Any ideas? Also inside breaker panel with main still off I'm getting continuity from the power side of all breakers to the neutral or ground. I was thinking this was normal because I had things turned on closing the circuit. But some that had continuity I know for a fact had everything turned off. Please give me your thoughts on this. Thank you!

Camping Around Australia, Check Out These 5 Places | AutoRoll ...

Fraser Island?

Often described as one of Australia?s most beautiful islands, Fraser Island offers a diverse combination of white sandy beaches, freshwater lakes, rainforest, mangroves and sand dunes. Visitors can swim in the crystal-clear waters of Lake McKenzie; take a bubbly dip in the Champagne Pools; explore Indian Head and the Maheno Wreck, or take one of the many fascinating hikes around the island.

Camping is the best way to experience Fraser Island. It is recommended to bring all necessary outdoor supplies from the mainland, as they may not be available on the island. A well-stocked first aid kit is a must, as there is no medical assistance available. Fraser Island is a fantastic place to try beach camping, but make sure you have the essentials, such as torches, a gas stove, a sturdy tent and toilet roll, as no facilities are provided.

?

Cape Tribulation

If you happen to be a bit fickle and you can?t decide what kind of camping adventure to take next, then Cape Tribulation may be a good option. Situated in the Daintree, Cape Trib has tropical rainforest that reaches straight out to its sandy beaches. It is surrounded by jagged mountains, deep valleys and gorges, freshwater lakes, and is only 20km inland from the Great Barrier Reef. Explore the rainforest on horseback, 4WD or you can even jungle surf.

There are a few campsites around Cape Trib, and most of them are fairly well stocked. Make sure your camping equipment can withstand the conditions, especially during wet season. It?s a good idea to invest in quality outdoor clothing and waterproofs, as well as some heavy-duty insect repellant to keep the minivan-size mossies at bay.

?

El Questro

Spread over one million acres in the east of the Kimberly, El Questro offers a unique outback camping experience. Formerly a cattle station, the land was purchased in the early 1990?s and was converted into a wilderness park with a homestead, bungalows, tented cabins and campsite. The diverse and rugged landscape offers 4WD terrain, waterways and waterfalls, an abundance of animal, fish and bird life, and the opportunity to explore wild, uncharted territories.

El Questro offers two possibilities for camping. At Black Cockatoo you will share your experience with other travellers and have access to nearby bathrooms, showers and the Station store. If you prefer solitude, private riverside sites are available which are secluded from other campers. Further away from amenities, it is best to ensure you have all the correct camping equipment such as tents and sleeping bags to contend with this and the tropical climate.

Esperance

Beach holidays don?t need to be spent lying limply on the sand. Despite the fairly impressive scenery on offer at Esperance, there is much more to it than just white beaches. Try some 4WDriving in the remote and rocky National Parks, or take a trek to the top of Frenchman?s Peak. Check out the waves at some of the best surf spots in the country at West Beach, Fourth Beach and Observatory Beach. Try out abseiling, sand boarding, or canoeing. Take a boat cruise round the Recherche Archipelago and dive among colonies of sea dragons and the Sanko Harvest shipwreck.

?

A boat cruise round the Recherche Archipelago is also recommended, where you can camp overnight on Woody Island. Camping grounds provide basic amenities, but ensure you pack camping equipment to suit the conditions during your stay. Choose a warm sleeping bag as nights can be chilly on the island.

?

Coles Bay

Situated in Freycinet Park ? one of the first National Parks in Tasmania ? Coles Bay is an excellent place to find unusual animal and plant life. See Tasmanian pademelons, red-necked wallabies, white-breasted sea eagles, native orchids, and abundant levels of bird-life. Bushwalking is a great way to get to know the park?s wildlife, and Coles Bay offers a huge range of short and long walks. Longer walks may require an overnight stay, so ensure you pack all appropriate outdoor supplies.

There are numerous caravan and camp sites in the National Park. Most are equipped with basic facilities, but it?s a good idea to ensure you have all appropriate camping equipment and outdoor supplies before you leave home.

(AP) ? Another recession isn't likely over the next 12 months. Neither is any meaningful improvement in the economy.

That's the picture that emerges from an Associated Press survey of leading economists who have grown more pessimistic in recent weeks. They say high unemployment and weak consumer spending will hold back the U.S. economy into 2012.

Their gloominess comes at a time when Europe's debt crisis threatens to infect the global financial system. It also coincides with an annual economic conference late this week in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and speculation about whether Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will unveil any new steps there to help the economy.

Worries that another recession is nearing and that the European crisis will spread have led to a roughly 15 percent drop in stock prices in the past month. Economists say the Great Recession ended in June 2009.

What makes a solution so difficult is that the fear gripping investors isn't just a symptom of economic distress; it's also a cause of it. Sinking stock prices frighten consumers and businesses. They then spend and invest less. Investors respond to lower corporate sales by selling stocks, worsening the market declines.

Each day that the stock market sinks "puts another nail in the coffin of the recovery," says Beth Ann Bovino, senior economist at Standard & Poor's.

"I had been saying it was a half-speed recovery; now, it's a quarter-speed recovery," Bovino says.

She is among 43 private, corporate and academic economists surveyed this month by the AP. As a group, they are more downbeat than when surveyed eight weeks ago. Among their conclusions:

? The likelihood of a recession within the next 12 months is 26 percent. In June, the economists had put the likelihood at 15 percent.

? The economy will inch ahead at an annual rate of 2 percent in the July-September quarter and 2.2 percent from October through December. Though stronger than the growth for the first half of 2011, that isn't enough to lower the unemployment rate much, if at all. And next year will barely be stronger.

? Weak consumer spending poses a "major" risk to the economy. In June, Americans cut their spending for the first time in nearly two years. And consumer spending fuels about 70 percent of the economy.

? The unemployment rate will end this year at 9 percent and 2012 at 8.5 percent. Those rates are slightly less than July's 9.1 percent. But they're more consistent with a recession than a recovery.

? The Fed's efforts to keep interest rates at record lows may not succeed in promoting growth or easing unemployment. But its low-rate policies will likely boost stock prices.

The economists do foresee economic growth, job creation, consumer spending and home prices all rising over the next year. But the gains they expect are so slight that many Americans won't notice.

For months, the Fed and private economists had clung to hopes that a slowdown in spring and early summer would prove temporary. They initially blamed temporary factors ? especially higher oil prices and an earthquake and nuclear crisis in Japan that disrupted factory production.

But the economy has kept worsening. U.S. home prices remain depressed. Job growth is weak. Workers' pay is barely rising. The economy grew at an annual rate of just 0.8 percent in the first half of 2011 ? much less than expected.

The benefits of the government's $862 billion stimulus are fading. No more stimulus is likely. And in June, the Fed ended a $600 billion Treasury bond-buying program that was designed to help keep rates low to spur spending and increase stock prices.

Then Europe's intensifying debt crisis and Congress' standoff over raising the debt ceiling undermined consumer confidence and spooked the markets. Consumers and investors foresee more gridlock ahead as a congressional committee seeks ways to cut at least $1.2 trillion in debt.

That means government spending, which normally helps economies climb back from recessions, will likely instead restrain growth.

Earlier this month, the Fed pledged to keep short-term rates near zero until mid-2013 if necessary to combat economic weakness. The Fed also seemed to suggest it might be open to another round of bond purchases.

Many are waiting with anticipation for Bernanke's speech Friday in Jackson Hole at a conference held by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. At last year's conference, Bernanke set the stage for the Fed's $600 billion Treasury-buying program.

But the economists in the AP survey are skeptical of the Fed's ability to improve economic conditions substantially.

"The Fed can't do anything at this stage that's going to be meaningful," says Joshua Shapiro, chief U.S. economist at MFR Inc.

The Fed can influence interest rates, Shapiro noted, but "the level of interest rates is not the impediment to growth."

A bigger obstacle is tepid demand across the economy. And even with rates at record lows, many companies and consumers can't or won't borrow. Consumers don't want to take on more debt while the economic outlook remains so dim and their job security uncertain.

The collapse in home prices means households have lost $7 trillion in equity since 2005. They're saving, not spending, to try to rebuild their lost wealth, says Sean Snaith, director of the University of Central Florida's Institute for Economic Competitiveness.

Consumers have shed about $240 billion in debt, excluding real estate loans, since the end of 2008, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

"We need to see the housing market stabilize," Snaith says. "We need to see some job creation. Until then, consumers are trying to put nest eggs that turned into Humpty Dumpty back together again ... It's just going to take time."

Midwest Technology ? How Has TV Programming Changed Over the Years?

The first profoundly modern invention (before the computer) has to be considered the television. Even in its most basic form it captivated audiences around the world. Movie theatres were a big deal, but these screens were in your own home! But with few channels, and in black and white, what was positively spellbinding then would seem beyond dull now. This is not only because of improvements in television?s technology but because of the quality and increased programming.

Television used to provide a limited amount of shows, and the TV accessed these by its use of ?rabbit ears? antennas. The content was extremely more conservative: characters on sitcoms didn?t sleep on the same bed, utter the word ?pregnant?, and certainly there was no swearing. There were way fewer networks issuing a vastly smaller selection of programming as cable television didn?t exist. As a result, advertisements had very different implications than they have today. Basically, there were fewer spots to plug their products. Also, because ratings were so much lower than today there wasn?t the same emphasis on advertising. As a result, television could appeal to a more intelligent viewer, and it in no way resembled the reality shows and gossipy news programs of today.

People still mostly relied on newspapers to learn about what was happening in the world. But things changed when the Presidential debates was on air?it was clear that people who heard the debates on the radio favoured the words of Nixon, but those who saw the composed, handsome Kennedy favoured him. TV executives and advertisers around the world began understanding the effect of TV and its programming started to change drastically.

TV has become the way in which people around the world see the world. Thanks to satellite TV and digital cable news and television programs can be accessed around the world. The amount of channels has literally jumped from several to several hundred.

A good way to consider just how much this has changed is to remind ourselves of how we used to find out what was on. At first we got off the couch and flipped the channels until we found something we liked, since there were so few channels this was easy. As more channels became available we had TV guides sent to our homes, and a channel was dedicated to scrolling through what was on TV at that moment. Now, we interact with digital guides that we scroll through on remote controls to best locate what we want. There are too many channels to have a print out sent to our homes.

The quality of programs has sunk drastically because of the diversity offered. Reality television doesn?t rely on writers or actors, and an unimaginable quantity of sports is broadcast?some, like darts and poker, aren?t even really sports. But with so many channels offered it?s possible to cater to all tastes.

Hundreds of millions of people have televisions in their homes, and the average household in America spends over a quarter of the day before a TV. There?s no doubt that the vastly smaller number of programs there were offered at first couldn?t possibly hold so many peoples attention for so long!

Why do I need to understand the concept of foreign companies

Business units will be formed to run, and closed all day. There are a variety of different types, and most people are familiar with the most votes from the "S" Company, LLC and traditional societies. In this article we take known a look at a company as a foreign company and is a major issue in this days.

What is a foreign company? It is a business unit that operates in a country other than where heFormat. We use the term "society", but it might as well apply, LLC, partnership or any other thing. The designated company is only a closet much as to say that we want a Coke instead of soda.

Imagine at this point well made foreign business entity in China or somewhere. While these are certainly still qualify for what we're really here is state jurisdictions. A business unit formed at the state level, so that aCalifornia company conducts business in Nevada is a foreign company in this state, even if what happens in Vegas stays in Las Vegas.

What it means to be a foreign company? Usually means that the permission for the activity in the state conduct file. This is done by the Secretary of State for the jurisdiction. Once you file, and then must pay the fees and expenses of the state, companies. In general, you get a second helping of what alreadyEnter your state and some unpleasant surprises. In California, for example, there is an annual fee of $ 800 for the "privilege of doing business" in the state. And people wonder why California is considered as hostile to business!

Why do so worried about foreign companies? Well, it could than be one. What you read here on opening a new world of jurisdictional issues. No, not the computer ? the Internet. A company in San Diego rarelywould the business with customers in other states before the Internet cause. Not now. Now every company has a website and orders from around the world. Well, you collect sales tax for orders? You are in the states where the sales are repeated recording? Probably not, and probably thinks it's necessary to do so would be madness. Well, ask Amazon.com for this purpose.

Many states are passing laws as Amazon. These laws simply say that repeating a business that makes salesbe from the web in a state governed by the laws of that state, that is, should the sales tax and pay for the state. The sides are fighting back, but it's just a matter of time before there is a law that to find the reason for the repeat sales to institutions in accordance with foreign multinational companies, happened. If your business does online sales of people in other states should not deter it.

Foreign companies were once a small thing in the worldbusiness units. Unfortunately, this seems more so in the future.

I'm communications jinxed

My cell phone is broken. Damn thing won?t turn on. It hasn?t been holding a charge worth anything for days and this morning when I put it on the charger, an hour later it would still not turn on. I?ve tried charging it in various other outlets, in case it was a sudden outlet problem, but no, no, nope. Little dead cell phone. It is not quite two years old (though super cheap because the model was ancient and so on super sale).

Peachy.

The good news of the day is that I?m sittin? on a little package from my Ema and as soon as I get the house is some sort of order, I?m going to see what my surprise is :)

Gundlach: Stern tried to "divide and conquer" firm (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? TCW's incoming CEO in 2009, Marc Stern, tried to sow discord and drive a wedge between Jeffrey Gundlach and his tight-knit mortgage-backed securities team, Gundlach testified on Thursday.

The star bond manager was worried that Stern, slated to take over TCW on an interim basis from June 1, 2009, would try to sideline him by recruiting his No. 2, Philip Barach, to head the team instead, Gundlach testified in court.

"They are trying to mount a counter-offensive," Gundlach, once called the king of bonds, wrote in a May 29 email showed to the court. "The war is on."

"I was concerned that he (Stern) was acting in a way that was writing me off and trying to push me out of the firm," the outspoken manager told jurors on Thursday. "It seemed like they were dividing and conquering."

Gundlach and TCW are locked in a high-stakes trial with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, and which has given a rare glimpse into the inner workings of asset management firms and the personalities that run them.

Gundlach, the industry's self-styled "Pope" and "Godfather," took the stand on Thursday afternoon and answered questions in a matter-of-fact tone. At times he offered lengthy explanations to the questioning before the judge told him to stop.

TCW fired Gundlach in late 2009 and sued him a month later, accusing him of stealing trade secrets, plotting to form a new company using TCW proprietary information, and gutting the firm of its entire mortgage-backed securities team.

Gundlach fired back with a counter-lawsuit, alleging that his former employer owed him hundreds of millions of dollars in back wages.

In the weeks following his termination, Gundlach formed his own asset management company, DoubleLine Capital, along with three of his co-defendants in the case.

Before Gundlach took the stand, jurors were shown a taped video deposition in which Gundlach said he never told anyone on his staff to download data from TCW or copy valuable trading information -- though he did briefly consider such an action.

"That stuff wouldn't do us any good anyway," the bond manager said in a video deposition played in court on Thursday. "There was never an instruction to do anything."

Gundlach watched his video deposition -- in which he laughingly answered questions -- with a stone face.

Cris Santa Ana, a co-defendant and key ally of Gundlach, testified earlier in the trial that Gundlach ordered him to begin downloading TCW information in early September 2009.

Gundlach said in the deposition that he was "very, very angry" upon hearing that he might be fired that month.

"If they're going to fire me, we should have a list of how to call our clients, and maybe their legal documents," he recalled saying on the trading floor.

However, Gundlach said in the video that he rejected the idea "about thirty seconds later, and nothing like that ever happened again."

"I loved TCW," Gundlach told jurors. "I wasn't going anywhere."

Gundlach will take the stand again on Monday.

TCW is a unit of French bank Societe Generale.

The case in Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, is Trust Co of the West v. Jeffrey Gundlach et al, BC429385.

Klinsmann settles for debut draw

By DAN GELSTON

updated 11:25 p.m. ET Aug. 10, 2011

PHILADELPHIA - Jurgen Klinsmann's debut is out of the way. All he needs now is a win.

Klinsmann's debut coaching U.S. soccer was bolstered by Robbie Rogers' tying goal late in the second half to help the Americans salvage a 1-1 draw against Mexico on Wednesday night.

Oribe Peralta scored for Mexico in a rematch of the Gold Cup final.

Klinsmann kicked off a new era in American soccer less than two weeks after he was hired.

He needs more time to make his mark. Klinsmann only held three practices since he took over a program that need a clear jolt after years of mediocre results.

The Americans, with a revamped midfield, need to develop a feel for each other and an understanding of what to expect out of Klinsmann.

Syrian forces kill five in swoop on northern towns (Reuters)

AMMAN (Reuters) ? Syrian forces killed at least five people in an assault on two northern towns Thursday, activists said, pursuing a military campaign to crush protests against President Bashar al-Assad despite new U.S. sanctions and regional calls to end bloodshed.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it had the names of five people killed and 16 wounded in morning raids by security forces backed by tanks on Qusair, near the Lebanon border, after overnight protests calling for Assad's removal.

Another activist group, the Syrian Revolution Coordinating Union, said it had identified at least nine people, including a woman and a baby, killed by random gunfire in Qusair.

Around 14 tanks and armored vehicles also swept into Saraqeb, a town on Syria's main north-south highway that has seen daily demonstrations, and 100 people were arrested by the security forces, residents said by telephone.

Syria's north, particularly Idlib province abutting Turkey, has been one of the hotbeds of the demonstrations across the country for more political freedoms, inspired by popular revolts against repressive ruling elites elsewhere in the Arab world.

Syria has barred most independent journalists since the uprising against 41 years of repressive Assad family rule flared five months ago, making it difficult to verify accounts from both sides of events on the ground.

At least 1,700 civilians have been killed in the unrest, rights groups say, and a series of military assaults on cities and town since the start of Ramadan 10 days ago has sharpened international condemnation.

The United States, saying the world was watching "in horror," imposed sanctions Wednesday on a Syrian state bank and on Syria's biggest mobile telephone company to target the financial infrastructure propping up Assad's autocratic rule.

Regional powers Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt have all added pressure on Assad to stop the violence although no country has proposed the kind of military intervention being carried out by NATO forces against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Syria says 500 soldiers and police have died in the bloodshed, which it blames on armed gangs and terrorists.

WEST WARNS OF TOUGHER UN ACTION

European members of the U.N. Security Council Wednesday warned Syria that it could face tougher U.N. action if Assad continued the onslaught against protesters, while Russia urged Damascus to implement promised reforms as soon as possible.

But Russia and China, both with veto powers in the Council and backed by India, South Africa and Brazil, have vehemently opposed the idea of slapping U.N. sanctions on Damascus, which Western diplomats say would be the logical next step.

Envoys of Britain, France, Germany and Portugal spoke to reporters after a closed-door session of the 15-nation council convened to assess Syria's compliance with last week's call by the world body for "an immediate end to all violence."

They said the Syrian leadership has ignored that demand.

Despite the worsening bloodshed, there appears little prospect that Western states will put teeth in its sanctions on Assad any time soon by targeting Syria's vital oil industry because of vested commercial interests abroad against doing so.

But Assad is suffering deepening international isolation, with several fellow Arab states recalling their ambassadors this week and pointed calls by Saudi Arabia and Turkey, two regional heavyweights, on him to curb his forces now and launch reforms.

At Wednesday's Council meeting, U.N. deputy political affairs chief Oscar Fernandez-Taranco said that nearly 2,000 Syrian civilians had been killed since March -- 188 since July 31 and 87 on August 8 alone, diplomats at the meeting said.

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice told reporters that "it would be much, much better for the people of Syria, and Syria would be better off, without Assad." She was echoing comments made last week by White House spokesman Jay Carney.

Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said Moscow had made clear to Damascus that Assad should follow through on reform promises as swiftly as possible.

"They need to have serious reforms as soon as possible, even though we do realize that it takes time, especially in a dramatic situation like this," he said. Asked if he thought the new U.S. sanctions on Syria were helpful, Churkin said, "No."

Syrian envoy Bashar Ja'afari blasted the Europeans, accusing them of misleading reporters about the situation.

"They tried to manipulate the truth and to hide important facts and elements related to the so-called situation in Syria," he said, adding that the Europeans had deliberately ignored Assad's promises of reform and national dialogue.
